Jazz Jackrabbit is a video game series focusing on the eponymous character Jazz Jackrabbit, an intergalactic soldier of fortune, and his fight against the dastardly Devan Shell. The series is the brainchild of Arjan Brussee and Cliff Bleszinski and was developed by Epic MegaGames, debuting on the IBM PC in 1994. The original game received two holiday-themed episodes, as well as a CD-ROM expansion which came with three extra episodes.
In 1998 a sequel was released, introducing Jazz's brother Spaz Jackrabbit as a new playable character and a new two-player mode. It also received a christmas-themed episode sold separately and a expansion which added a new episode. This game also came with the Jazz Creation Station, which allowed players to create their own custom levels.
A third game was being worked on by Epic, which would bring the series to the 3D world, but since Epic couldn't find a publisher the project was cancelled. In 2002 Epic licensed the Jazz Jackrabbit character to small developer Game Titan, which developed a portable title for the Game Boy Advance as an attempt to reboot the series. This title was poorly received by fans and critics alike.
